What is Biomaster?
Biomaster is a highly effective antibacterial technology that reduces the level of bacteria, microbes and viruses on surfaces, in plastics, fabrics, paints and coatings.
Biomaster protection is incredibly durable, long lasting and works tirelessly to keep bacteria that can cause illness and disease at bay.
How does Biomaster work?
Biomaster’s antibacterial capability is based on silver-ion technology which works in three distinct ways to inhibit the growth of bacteria and microbes on any treated item, reducing the risk of virus and illness.
Firstly, Biomaster binds to the cell wall of the bacteria, damaging it and preventing it from growing any further. Secondly, Biomaster penetrates the cell wall and actively stops the bacteria from producing energy and finally, Biomaster interrupts the bacteria’s DNA to prevent it from replicating, causing the bacteria to die.
Within a relatively short period of time from the incorporation of Biomaster additives, there will be no original bacteria left. Any new bacteria introduced to the surface through cross contamination will go through the same process, as Biomaster provides a permanent effect that works 24/7 for the lifetime of the treated item.
Aren’t some bacteria good for us?
Some types of bacteria are beneficial to us and necessary for our bodies and environment, this is because we need exposure to bacteria to enable our immune systems to grow and strengthen.
It would be impossible to eliminate all bacteria, even if we wanted to, so when it comes to harmful bacteria such as campylobacter, E.coli, salmonella and listeria, it makes sense to manage our exposure, especially in food preparation zones, environments and products in contact with vulnerable people including children, the elderly, the sick or infirm.
That’s where Biomaster antibacterial and antimicrobial technology comes in, reducing the background level of bacteria and ensuring cleanliness and hygiene in between your routine cleans.
What sort of bacteria does Biomaster protect me from?
Biomaster has been extensively tested on the most common types of harmful bacteria, including those found in and around the home, in food preparation areas, food packaging and in highly populated, frequently used public areas. In fact we have found Biomaster to be effective in more than 2,000 applications.

How effective is Biomaster?
We regularly test Biomaster to prove its continued effectiveness and whenever a new application is requested. Biomaster is proven to inhibit the growth of bacteria by up to 99.99%.
Has Biomaster been tested?
Biomaster has been tested and we believe it is of the upmost importance to ensure that each application we develop is thoroughly tested for its ability to achieve the desired result.
Tests are conducted to internationally recognised ISO standards by Europe’s top independent laboratory. We believe that all testing should be done independently to give you the assurance and peace of mind that the technology works and is safe to use.
In addition, we also undertake on-going quality control tests and environmental trials.
Is it true that Biomaster is effective against antibiotic-resistant bacteria?
Yes, Biomaster has been tested for and proven to be effective against antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus (VRE).
How immediate is the Biomaster effect?
Unlike a disinfectant that kills bacteria immediately but only has a temporary effect, Biomaster typically works within 20 minutes to effectively inhibit the growth of bacteria and permanently protect the treated surface.
It then continues to work against bacteria, day and night, for the lifetime of the treated product. It doesn’t wear out or run out.
When will my Biomaster Protection run out?
As Biomaster antibacterial technology is permanently incorporated in to the material of the product in question, it remains active for the practical lifetime of that product. Biomaster can be incorporated into consumable and durable items from bin bags to construction materials.
Do I still need to clean Biomaster protected items?
Yes you do. A robust and effective cleaning regime is good practice, hygienic and always recommended. Biomaster doesn’t wipe away bacteria and it can’t clear debris and dirt, only cleaning will do that.

How do I know that my item is Biomaster protected?
There are a wide range of products in our day to day environment that use Biomaster technology, however, you can only be sure if the item in question displays the Biomaster Protected logo on the packaging or the product itself. You can’t see, smell or even taste Biomaster.

Is Biomaster safe?
Biomaster is a safe method of preventing bacteria as it uses silver, a natural antimicrobial that has been recognised for centuries for its ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria with no harmful effects.
This is why Biomaster is used in medical, food and water applications, all of which have been rigorously tested and approved.
What’s the difference between antimicrobial and antibacterial?
Antimicrobials and antibacterials both provide protection against bacteria, however, the way that they work is different. Both terms are often used interchangeably, but this is technically incorrect.
An antimicrobial works against a broad range of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and moulds, whereas an antibacterial is specifically targeted to prevent the growth of bacteria. Both will inhibit the growth of, and destroy, bacteria.
Biomaster’s primary objective is to provide antibacterial benefits and that’s why it’s simpler to call it antibacterial even though it also provides antimicrobial benefits.
What’s the difference between Biomaster and other silver based antimicrobial additives?

Why has chicken got a lot to answer for?
It is well documented that raw chicken is a source of campylobacter. This microorganism is the UK's biggest source of food poisoning and responsible for at least 280,000 illnesses and around 110 deaths a year.
In 2015, a Food Standards Agency study found 73% of raw retail chicken to be contaminated with the bacteria.
Cooking your chicken properly kills the campylobacter bacteria, however, good food preparation and hygiene in the kitchen and around the home is vital to reduce the risk of cross contamination.
The FSA survey also found that 7% of fresh chicken outer packaging was contaminated. This equates to 9,000,000 packs of contaminated packs sold each year in the UK. This means that even if you cook your chicken thoroughly, there is still a chance that you could spread bacteria by handling contaminated packaging. It takes only a few campylobacter bacteria to make you very ill.
Incorporating Biomaster antibacterial technology more frequently in poultry packaging could significantly reduce the incidence of campylobacter cross contamination. Using a Biomaster Protected reusable shopping bag will also help reduce the risk of cross contamination and the spread of bacteria.

How will my Biomaster protected bag for life help me?
Did you know that dangerous bacteria such as campylobacter and MRSA can survive for up to 8 weeks in a reusable shopping bag?
A University of Pennsylvania study conducted in 2007 reported that the increase in use of reusable bags led to a 46% increase in deaths and hospitalisations from food borne illnesses. In addition, during 2011 Glasgow Caledonian University’s School of Life Sciences discovered that 51% of reusable bags contained harmful bacteria.

The list could be quite extensive if you have been using your reusable bag for food shopping and carrying other items such as sportswear, dirty washing, shoes, recycling or pet supplies.
